Feltheart is a blend of early jazz and folk traditions, brought to life by a trio of accomplished musicians. Drawing inspiration from the American songbook and folk music, they play both original and standard songs that combine violin, cello, accordion, ukulele, and guitar under rich vocal harmonies and evoke a sense of nostalgia and belonging.

Alex Fam is a spirited folk singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist who is known for her witty lyrics, love for trees, playing the violin while singing, and creative arrangements. She masterfully combines violin, ukulele, and vocal looping with soothing vocals. Alex is also a visual artist and her second album, Real Life Magic, is accompanied by an original collage art exhibit. Alex is the 2022 recipient of the UU Mass Action “Ruth Rowan Award” which is given to a person or group who is actively engaged in social justice and who motivates others to take action through music. In 2023, Alex released a new song and music video each month.

Ariel Friedman is a multi-genre cellist, composer, and poet. A winner of the 2020 Women Composers Festival of Hartford's call for scores and a recipient of New England Conservatory's 2018 Alumni Award, she is steeped both in the music of American roots traditions and a broad range of classical repertoire. Ariel tours the U.S. and abroad with her sister as Ari & Mia, both award-winning songwriters, and has performed nationally and internationally with many other folk-based ensembles. She is the founding cellist of Cardamom Quartet, performs with Boston Modern Orchestra Project and has written music for and collaborated with many ensembles and soloists.

Anat Halevy Hochberg is a musician, teacher, and ritual leader. Her passions include leading song, empowering others to raise their voices, and working to reclaim the Yemenite melodies of her heritage. She has taught and led ritual at Eden Village Camp, Let My People Sing!, Hadar’s Rising Song Intensive, and Linke Fligl. She co-produced Tishrei: the end is the beginning and Elul: Songs for Turning, and her debut album How can I keep (from) singing? was released in 2020.

Alex, Ariel, and Anat met playing music at a friend’s wedding and then joined forces on a love-themed concert. As both crafters and musicians, the name Feltheart describes their heart-centered music as well as a heart literally made of felt. The process of felting involves rubbing, washing, and working wool into a final solid piece—the way humans develop over a lifetime, the way our hearts become fully felted.
